The "Madame Royale" 
Historical Society




General

The "Madame Royale" Historical Society was founded  in Hildburghausen as a society of several researchers in April 2005. The aim is to clearing the following questions on scientific basis:

  1. Was the so-called "Dark Countess" of Hildburghausen and Eishausen indeed Madame Royale, Marie Therese Charlotte of Bourbon, a daughter of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette of France (theory of substitution)?

  2. If yes: Who played the official role of Madame Royale after the substitution? Who was the person the history knows as "Duchess of Angoulême"?

  3. If not: Who was the "Dark Countess"?

The society tries to find answers by own research and by the support of activities other researches and institutions and benefits the contact between several researchers. 

Website


With the website the society offers a common platform for the work of researchers. Numerous materials stand at the free possession, as for example a comprehensive literature and picture database. In the topics "Articles" and "Discussion forum" own works and opinions can be published.

Besides, the website gives a short introduction to the topic and informs the public about news in connection with the Dark Countess and Madame Royale. The bilingualism (German and English) guarantees a use in foreign countries.
