| Description: | Arrest of the royal family in Varennes on the 21/6/1791. |
| Commentary: | The escape failed near the border, because the royals are too late. In Sainte-Ménehould the man Drouet changes the horses and becomes suspicious. He rides to Varennes and induces a check of the identity papers. The judge of the village Destez knows the king. Representatives of the government in Paris arrive on the 22/6/1791 at Varennes and arrest the king. The royal family have to go back to Paris. |
