The author describes how the Dutch van der Valck came to Eishausen in
Germany and met an orphan at the castle. Later he went to Paris and fight
in the French army for the ideas of the revolution. Disappointed about the
political development he went back to Eishausen, felt in love with the
orphan, but had to fled to Rome. After some years he met her again
and they wet back to Eishausen to live there a life in seclusion.
