Mrs. Claudia Schacke has written a scientific work about the Duchess of Angoulême and the Dark Countess. The author turns her attention towards the question what justifies the acceptance that particularly the duchess wasn't the real Madame Royale. On the circumstantial evidence which is specified by different authors for the falseness of the duchess or the authenticity of the so-called Dark Countess (e.g. the portrait comparisons as well as the changes of the character of the duchess) she comments critically. Using French literature evaluated newly as well as a graphological expert opinion ordered by her on different specimen proofs of the Madame Royale it proves that the exchange thesis can be not at all regarded as proved. The text is very helpful to a critical discussion with the topic, especially by the list of references and sources.

Madame Royale, die Tochter Ludwigs XVI. und Marie Antoinettes, verlor während der Französischen Revolution ihre gesamte Familie. Nach 18 Jahren Exil kehrte sie mit ihrem Mann, dem Duc d'Angoulême, und ihrem Onkel aus dem Exil zurück und schien von ihrem Wesen her eine komplett andere Person zu sein. Halten die Argumente, die dafür sprechen, dass sie, nun Duchesse d'Angoulême genannt, nicht die echte Madame Royale war, einer näheren Betrachtung stand? Und wenn es tatsächlich zu einem Austausch gekommen ist, wann fand dieser statt? Warum und von wem wurde dieser durchgeführt? Wer spielte die Rolle der Duchesse d'Angoulême? Und wohin verschwand die echte Madame Royale? Lebte sie vielleicht mehrere Jahrzehnte fast unerkannt in Deutschland? War sie die geheimnisvolle Dunkelgräfin, die in Ingelfingen, Hildburghausen und Eishausen ihr Gesicht vor allen verbergend in strengster Zurückgezogenheit gelebt hatte?
