Rückert believes, that the Dark Count and the Dark Countess were a
pair of lovers, who lives a romantic and secret life in Eishausen. He
interprets the letters from that point of view that van the Valck should
marry a certain person by request of his family. But he declined this,
kidnaped his earlier lover Agnes Berthelmy from Le Mans and fled with her
to Germany. The daughter of Agnes Berthelmy was, in the end, the Dark Countess.
