The author believes the Dark Count of Hildburghausen was Louis XVII, who was liberated from the prison Temple in Paris. By a fictitious diary the author describes the events in the life of Louis XVII between 1802 and 1845.

Louis XVII was liberated from the Temple by Marquis de Signoles with the help of Limoelan, Neufville and Barras and grew up at Castle Sous-Jaunay in the Vendée. Later he came together with Signoles to Holland and met the family "van der Valck". After the death of Signoles he was adopted by the family "van der Valck" and got the name Leonardus Cornelius van der Valck.

During his childhood in the Vendée he met Marie Therese of Condé, a non acknowledged daughter of Prince Henri of Condé and his wife Mademoiselle d‘ Orléans. She was called "Marion" and was a sister of the Duke of Enghien. Marie Therese went with her educators countess Noailles and Somaris from France to Germany and lived in Münster (Germany). The educators planned a wedding between her and the Vicomte de Mordiane. She refused that relationship. That's why she fled with his old friend Louis XVII alias "van der Valck" from Münster to Düsseldorf, Köln, Frankfurt, Auerbach/Odenwald, Ingelfingen and Ansbach on the Tegernsee. In the summer of 1807 they came to Hildburghausen and lived there and in the village Eishausen until the death. Marion died on the 15/12/1837.
